Shoe Organizer Becomes Pantry Organizer (WFMW #51)

To read all of the great tips and ideas for this week's themed Works for Me Wednesday, which is all about Kitchen Organization, be sure to check out Rocks in my Dryer!

The pantry in my house was built with the dimensions of your average coat closet. While this does make for more room than those with pantries that aren't very deep, it does cause some issues with things getting lost. This is particularly true for smaller pantry items.

Enter our solution...

We put up just your average shoe organizer on the inside door of the pantry. This has been great for us for a variety of reasons:

  • It freed up room on pantry shelves, as well as helped us to not lose smaller pantry items.
  • The bottom half of the organizer is filled with any of the snacks the kids can have during snack times (apart from refrigerated items, of course). It is not all that full in this picture, but we normally have it full of all kinds of choices. This way, the kids can get the snacks themselves when we annouce that it's snack time. Plus, they don't have to say, "Is it okay to have (whatever)." They know what they can have for snack because of where it is in the door organizer.
  • I can stick bag clips in one of the holders. What a treat to not have to search for these!
  • The top portion of the holder is home to the kids' medicines. We don't have enough room in our medicine cabinet for all of our OTC medications. So, we put all of the kids' medicines (Tylenol, etc.) in the top portion of the holder.

This holder cost us less than $10, but has saved us space and headaches! It definitely helped to organize our kitchen!

I can't wait to read everyone else's ideas! We are always looking for ways to streamline. This should be a great themed Works for Me Wednesday!

Great idea! I have the same thing in my pantry, but it's holding paper napkins and picnic supplies. Great minds....

What a great idea! I only wish I had a door to hang one of these on. Thanks for getting my wheels turning though!

Such an amazing idea, but simple solution! This might be added to our kitchen organization very, very soon!

The past two homes we've lived in (including our current home) had no pantry whatsoever, so we had to go out and buy one of those Sauder cabinets. There is only so much space in them, you know? I might have to tweak this idea a bit to make it work for us, but I will definitely be putting this tip to good use! Thanks! :o)

Great idea!! I am going to steal this and put one up in the "utility" closet in our kitchen. Right now it holds the ironing board and nothing else (it is TINY), I like the idea of holding OTC meds and things that you need but have nowhere else to put them.

My parents have one of these on the back of their bathroom door. It is very small and they keep deodorant, brushes, makeup, etc. in it.

Thanks for sharing!

I've seen this idea before but never been as inspired by it as I was by your post! Thanks so much for the visual but especially for listing what you store and where, it's really helpful and makes me want to go and buy one. I know just where I'll put it too!

Love this idea! Our pantry door is a little more narrow, but maybe I can find one that will still fit nicely. Thanks for the tip!

How creative! I love it when an item can be used in more than one way.

It's wonderful to know that I'm not the only fan of door hangers! My kids groan whenever I buy a new one. But I absolutely love organizing by pockets! We have them on all the closets, the bathroom, the linen closet, the garage wall (yes, nailed up, mind you) and even our shed! The only place I DON'T have one is the pantry. But now you have me thinking! Thanks for the tip!

I love this! I've thought about doing something similar with my cupboards (no pantry) for things that just get lost in the fray.

Nicely done!

I love it. Our pantry is like yours, like a coat closet. Our door has these wire holders on it which is very functional as well. But, I do tend to lose those bag clips!

My parents have the same thing hanging...such a great idea. However my one year old gets into it too much to do it myself. Thanks for sharing!

What a great idea! It makes me wish I had that kind of door on my pantry. Well, that and the fact that I don't like the layout of my pantry/kitchen. ;-)

What a great idea to use your pantry for medicines...my cabinet cannot fit them all and it's impossible to find anything. Thanks for the tip!

This is a great idea, Angie! I don't have a door in my kitchen, though. I do use one in my Reagan's room for Barbies and the accessories.

Thanks for the wonderful idea! This is the perfect place for the kids medicine! And I love the snack storage.
