I have been pretty absent from the blog since late last week. I kept meaning to come post, but I have been busy, busy, busy with baking Christmas gifts.
This means that I've been busy working my way through: seven pounds of flour, 19 eggs, just under six pounds of butter, over five pounds of sugar, two pounds of brown sugar, etc.
I'm beat! (And, sadly, I actually have things in the oven right as I'm typing!)
Still -- I am confident to post this as a Works for Me Wednesday, because baking gifts *does* work for me, even if it wears me out.
Last year and this year, I have baked a variety of goodies and given them in baskets to family and friends. This year, for some people, I am actually doing baskets and for some people (like the guys that work under Eric, as well as preschool and religious ed teachers), we're doing a platter of goodies.
In the next couple of weeks, I hope to be posting some of the recipes of things that I am including in the baskets this year. I'm sure, though, that if you are interested in putting together baskets of goodies, that you have a ton of fabulous recipes for goodies to include.
Now...on to the giveaway...
I definitely could have used this giveaway while I have been busy baking! You see, with all this baking, I have been putting off preparing our meals. Perhaps if I had already had everything planned out and shopped for with a service like Simple Family Supper.
Yes, I do menu plan on my own, but this service is so easy! And, at only $5/month (less than $.20/day!) , it's worth it to not have to sit down and plan out your meals and then figure out your shopping lists.
I contacted Heather (the owner of the site), since I know her aunt, and told her that I would love to write about her site here at Many Little Blessings and would love if she would give me a one month subscription to give away.
Well...she did better than that! Not only did she give me a free month (Thanks, Heather!), but she is also giving a subscription for the month of December to FIVE of my readers! Wow!
To enter, just leave a comment with your favorite meal. It can be something you cook, something your grandma used to serve you as a child, or your favorite take out food. Oh -- and be sure that I have a way to contact you if you win! (Hey -- if you also bake as a Christmas gift, tell me what you make for people too!)
And...while you're waiting for the winners to be drawn, make sure to check out Simple Family Supper because Heather has a free sample on her site of a one week menu! We *love* free stuff!
The drawing will be held from the entries that are in by 11:59 pm EST on this Friday (the 28th).

I'd love to be entered! My favorite dinner, at least lately, has been Taco Soup.
Oh, I would love to win that! A friend of mine has done that (or something similar) and loved it. I'll be doing my baking tomorrow -- sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole and two cheesecakes.
I have baked for gifts before, too -- usually peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, magic cookie bars (YUM!) and peanut butter fudge.
One year, I did the little mason jar things -- you know, where you put all the dry ingredients and a tag with directions. One of my husband's relatives joked that next year, I'd just give them a sack of groceries.
You've just gotta love the husband's relatives. :-P
Chicken and cheese enchiladas are my go-to meal. Great giveaway!
Home made chicken noodle soup w/ bread has been a favorite of mine since the weather has turned colder...
Please enter me into the drawing; thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.....
That sounds pretty cool! I'd love to be entered as well. :)
Thanks for a great giveaway! My favorite winter meal is a Taste of Home recipe for Cheeseburger Soup - it's just so warm and hearty!
I bake gifts every year - all sorts of cookies, 3-4 types of fudge, and various candies. It's fun family time and the goodie trays are always loved - in fact, I get requests from friends asking when they will be getting their trays each year!!! Gotta love it! :)
One of my favorite meals is smoked brisket and brats (DH does that part), grilled sweet potatoes, smoked corn on the cob and something chocolate for dessert.
I'd love to win the menu planning service, especially for the crazy busy month of December!
I do a ton of baking over the holidays, too. Mainly because it is a bit cheaper for me to give gifts to most of my friends and family AND it is something personal and special. I have a website that I buy pretty little candy boxes and bags and containers to package the goodies in to make it extra special. Even with that expense, I still save money on gifts. No one has complained so far! Not that they could with their mouths full of cookies! I would love to see what you include in your goodie trays and baskets. I feel like I'm not quite making enough!
Anyway, as for our favorite meal around here, it has to be Southwestern Egg Rolls. I modified it to be a bit healthier than the version at Chili's (I bake them for instance as opposed to deep frying). I never have left overs with those!
I'm a roast beef and potatoes kind of gal myself--yum!
Well...I've been craving chinese food with this pregnancy and my favorite chinese food is Panda Express.
One thing I enjoy making to eat is fried rice. :-) Thanks for hosting this!
Hi Angie,
it is admirable that you are going to give your readers with something. I received Simple Family Supper Bonus money saving, but it seems to me complicated to cook with those receipes, because we (in Middle Europe) use another way of weighing. We use grams, kilograms, litres etc. Another fact is, that I probably won`t have some special ingrediences needed in the receipes. But I will have a look at the menu and will try to cook something.
We traditionally bake gingerbread on Christmas in Slovakia and other sweet things. I will send you a receipt, but first I have to translate it. I cannot do it now, because my husband with my daughter have just come back from outside. They were sledging, it is white snow all around. Bye
This would be awesome to try out and see if it would work for me. My hubby is so dang picky sometimes things like this don't work out.
Anyway, i LOVE to bake just haven't found time to do it but am planning on it in the near future as gifts to coworkers. My absolute favorite it Peanut Butter Krackle to give away. Check back on my blog in a couple weeks and I will post the recipe!
Here it is: "MEDOVNIKY" /something like gingerbread/
I found a free conversion calculator, so it was finally quite easy.
You need:
1 Ib and 8,69 oz very fine flour,
0 Ib and 9,87 oz icing sugar,
0 Ib and 9,87 oz vegetable fat,
6 spoons of honey,
1 small spoon of sodium bicarbonate,
grated clove,
grated cinnamon,
lemon peel,
3 eggs
We put all the ingredients together in the bowl and mix it into a paste. We put it into the fridge to cool down. Then we roll out the mixture (4-5 mm) and cut out with the different molds. Use flour to avoid sticky paste. We touch the cookies with a mixed egg. We bake the cookies 10 minutes, 180C.
They are fantastic, I will send you a photo. I plan to do them on Friday.
Good night.
One of our favorite meals is sausage and potaotes, fried.
When I do my goodie bags we make, among other things, fudge, peanut brittle, various cookies, etc.
I look forward to seeing your recipes!
My favorite meal is probably the traditional Thanksgiving meal. My big kids were just asking why we only have that once a year and I honestly don't know why, we all love it. :)
Dear Angie,
I forgot to tell you...if I win, please give the subscription to someone who really needs it. I cook almost every day and truly sometimes I don`t know what to cook, but I can find a lot of free recipes on slovak web. I am sending you a nice song, I like and I am sure, you know the song. Also I wish you joy and good feeling by baking the Christmas cookies. And please forgive me the mistakes (English grammar) I sometimes do. Bye http://www.ziwhat.sk/main.php?p=video&c=257&kid=6
My favorite thing to make is probably something with pasta in it. But I do love to make a big turkey dinner, even when it's not Thanksgiving. I also like to make tacos! I just like to cook.
I love getting baked goods at Christmas time. Its such a nice treat to enjoy peoples master pieces. I also love to bake our gifts or give gifts that can be made (like soups and cookie mixes in jars). Now for our family favorite meal I would have to say Mexican Lasagna its a great recipe that my mother in law created!!

I really enjoy the foods we make every year on Thanksgiving.
Everything seems to taste extra special then.
Great giveaway!
looks yummy!
I'd love to be entered! I would love to give something like this to my grandmother who has recently been diagnosed as diabetic. his is a woman who has NEVER watched what she ate or counted calories. She is lost to say the least.
Our favorite meal here is probably taco's or nacho's.
I do bake items for people this time of year but usually get together with a friend to share in the baking. We just make whatever suits our fancy that year. So, suggestions are always welcome. The only constant is my favorite the chocolate chip cookie!
