Redecorating a Room Without Paint or New Furniture (WFMW #59)

We have recently done some room redecorating, and we did it without a single gallon of paint or any new furniture. Now, I won't say that it was cheap, but it was the easiest room redecoration that we've ever done.
We had been wanting to have a slightly different look in our bedroom, so we had wanted to get a new comforter for the bed.
Instead, we stumbled into a totally different look for the room by buying (deeply on sale) a "room in a bag" kind of set. It is the one pictured here (from Macy's website) and it included 24 pieces. Not only did it include tons of things for the bed (which would have given our room a totally different look), but it also included a new set of curtains and valance (also shown in the picture).
This was a great way to quickly change the look and feel of our room. We went from having a tattered comforter to having our bed look like it belongs in a nice hotel. Apparently we're moving up in the world.
What are your favorite ways to change the look of a room without a ton of work?

That shade of teal/turquoise/blue and brown is one of my favorite color combinations! I'm sure your husband is appreciative of the new, more welcoming haven you've been able to create. :~)

The set apparently retails for $450. Yikes, huh? But, I was able to get it for around $170. (As far as I'm concerned, I would never buy anything full price at Macy's, since they are constantly having sales.) Even then, I didn't think it was cheap, but we were using such a tattered set, and I knew it would transform the room.

Oh -- and they do sell sets that are fewer pieces. I almost got one of those that was on sale at the same time for $79. It was around 8 pieces or so. But, man -- this set was just made to go with the color our room is already painted. (Our room is blue.)

I once "redecorated" my living room and dining room simply by swapping the curtains between the rooms. Considering that one set of curtains was homemade and the other was $1 on clearance, even the original decorating was pretty cheap!

Love that set! I agree that is a perfect way to change up a room!

My favorite way to change a room is still with paint. Though not necessarily on the walls. We recently painted our bathroom cabinet (including the hideously 1970's laminate counter top) and it transformed the bathroom completely! After less than a quart of paint and a few hours to dry we were left with a totally new room!

Hello,

I like these two colours too, your bedroom is simple and nice. Our bedroom is overfulled with toys and Di`s books, she`s almost two, but she still sleeps with us. I don`t mind. I don`t work, because I take care about our daughter, so we can`t afford something nice and new, because we have only 1 salary. Slovakia also is accepting euro in January, we will be counting and counting. If I start work, it will change everything, I hope. Bye
